Xiao Hui Xiang was the first artist we worked with from China. It was also the first artist with whom we couldn't directly communicate with anything other than sign language, grunts, pointing and drawing. We all learned lots from the experience. The owners of the Chinese restaurant down the road, and the Chinese consulate in Chicago got lots of phone calls from us, and very generously helped us over the language barrier. |
