| In 1987, Russell was
the first Winter Artist-in-Residence at the Lakeside Studio.
Living in Lakeside for the winter, Russell worked from Thanksgiving through
early April. Lots of silence, time for concentration and tennis
produced a surprising, inspiring show, that was then featured as a one-man
exhibit at the Chicago International Art Exposition in 1988 by the Lakeside
Studio. A note on the size of these works. Mr. Gordon himself is well over 6 feet tall, and my first memory of him was from the early 70's (I would guess) when a very small sports car pulled up behind the hotel, and a very large man got out! The smallest of these pieces is 4' x 4'. The largest are 4' x 8'. |
