American born 1935

Ron Ruble
Ronald Ruble is a printmaker from Oregon, Wisconsin. His color lithographs are finely detailed, realistic images inspired by the history of aviation and the mystery of flight. In his series of prints titled VESPERS, he focuses on images of early flying machines and pioneering aviators as a tribute to the accomplishments of this early era. The warm, subtle (almost sepia) tones give these prints an antique feeling. Images depicting more contemporary styles of flight, such as hang gliding, use bolder colors and more dramatic compositions.
In his recent work, Ruble has shifted both subject matter and medium to create abstract interpretations of a book’s printed page. In geometric columns, he creates his own script, seemingly legible until one looks closely. The composition of each painting becomes the “layout” of a page. These paintings work well in a series, mimicking the continuous narrative of a book.
Ronald’s work has been included in over 90 national and international shows and he’s been the recipient of many awards in the printmaking field. In addition, he has been a frequent instructor of ceramics and printmaking; doing workshops around the state of Iowa.
